Super Eagles To Open Akwa Ibom Int'l Stadium On November 6
Nigeria's
Super Eagles, made up entirely of domestic league players, will play a
friendly game in Uyo, Akwa Ibom to formally open the new Akwa Ibom
Stadium on November 6, 2014.
Officials of the Nigeria Football Federation. NFF disclosed in Abuja
that the friendly encounter, which is to be bankrolled by the Akwa Ibom State Government, will see the Super Eagles play a North African team that will be confirmed this week.
Head Coach Amodu Shaibu is
already planning to use the opportunity of this international friendly
to begin preparations for Nigeria's 2015 Africa Cup of Nations
qualifying games against Congo and South Africa in November.
"22
players will be called up to camp in Uyo from Sunday, November 2 ahead
of the friendly and that game will afford us a wonderful opportunity to
see some of our best legs in the domestic league more closely," Shaibu opened up. "We will have the opportunity of working with them for about three days before the friendly.
"Some of those who show the quality we are looking for will then join the main squad for the qualifiers.
"We
must seize every opportunity we have to get a strong squad ready for
the challenges ahead and we really appreciate the Akwa Ibom State
Government as well as the Nigeria Football Federation for putting this
programme together," the coach added.
The new 30,000 capacity Akwa Ibom Stadium in Uyo is also expected to
host Nigeria's final 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South
Africa on November 19, 2014.
We Haven't Banned 'Pomo' – Minister Of Agric
The minister reportedly said, during the inauguration of the 3rd Council
of the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science on Monday, October 20 in
Abuja, that the government only wanted Nigerians to know how much more
money could be made from ‘pomo’ if it’s sold as leather.
He said:
“We need to develop efficient leather industry in Nigeria. But government has not banned the consumption of pomo.”
“I have seen a lot of stories saying that the government has banned pomo. That is not the job of the government.”
“What we are trying to do is to make people to understand that we can make a lot of money through the sales of pomo.”
“We have been importing leather into the country. This is not good for our local leather manufacturing companies.”
The government was criticized by citizens after reports emerged that the
consumption of the much loved local delicacy would be banned.
An expert, Dr Isuwa Adamu has also urged Nigerians to desist from consuming ‘pomo’ as he claims it's bad for the health.

Lionel Richie has rubbished reports that he is Khloe Kardashian's real father.
The "Call It Love" singer blasted the claims to TMZ on Monday night, replying: 'No, of course not!'

C-O-N-F-U-S-I-O-N!!! Nigerian Police Officer Kills Wife, 5 Others And Self Over Marital Dispute.
Police Corporal Sunkanmi Ogunbiyi, attached to State Criminal Investigation Department of the Ogun State Police Command, went berserk on Thursday morning in Abeokuta.
The rampaging policeman was said to be having matrimonial problems with Oluwatosin, his wife, who is also a police corporal attached to Obantoko police station in Abeokuta, the Ogun capital.
According to neighbours, following a quarrel between the couple, Oluwatosin moved, alongside their two children, to the house of a neighbour, their landlady.
Witnesses said Mr. Ogunbiyi arrived the landlady’s residence at about 7:02 a.m. and immediately opened fire on his wife. He also shot and killed the landlady, a 2-year-old toddler, and three others. He did not shoot at his children, who were also in the house.

Experts: #Ebola Could Go Airborne
Africa scientists are privately concerned the virus could mutate to become airborne, one expert has warned. So far 2,300 people have lost their lives to the disease with more than 4,300 cases recorded in West Africa in the last six months – the worst outbreak since the disease was discovered in 1976. The World Health Organisation has warned there may be thousands of new cases each week in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Nigeria by early October. Kwankwaso To Declare Presidential Ambition October 23
There were said to have been earlier attempts to convince Kwankwaso to step down for formaer Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari who is also seeking the APC ticket but they were unsuccessful.
According to party chieftain, Olisaemeka Akumukali, the governor will begin his presidential campaign by next week Thursday,
Akamukali said:
"In as much as we agree that Buhari is a man of integrity, you will also agree with me that age is not on his side. He is 73 going to 74 years and ex-vice president Atiku Abubakar is about 70 years old. But kwankwaso will be 58 by October 21."
Buhari will declare his aspirations on October 15 at the Eagles Square in Abuja while Atiku declared his intention to run on September 24.
Alamieyeseigha Ex-Governor Bayelsa's Son Dies In Dubai
According to The Nation, Oyoms Alamieyeseigha, a son of former Bayelsa State Governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha is dead.
The younger Alamieyeseigha is said to have been found dead in his father’s home in Dubai, the commercial capital of theUnited Arab Emirates, on Saturday, October 11.
There are conflicting reports regarding the cause of his death with some claiming he was killed while yet others say he committed suicide.
Diepreye Alamiyesegha was the governor of Bayelsa, President Goodluck Jonathan’s home state, from 29 May 1999 – 9 December 2005.

Looks like NFF is looking for another coach to replace Keshi
After losing 3-2 to Congo, 1-0 to a meek Sudanese side, drawing with South Africa and being at the bottom of Group A with a single point after three rounds of matches in the qualifying tournament for Morocco 2015, it looks like the Nigeria Football Federation is getting ready to replace Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi.
The NFF have said they won't make any hasty decisions on Keshi's future but will wait till the match tomorrow to know what step to take next. Sports analyst believe that if the Super Eagles fail to win the match tomorrow, then Keshi can as well kiss his job goodbye.
The NFF board will meet today and tomorrow after the match to determine where to go from here but there are strong indications that they are already looking for a replacement for the coach.
Meanwhile, Keshi has revealed that he has several countries waiting to hire him should he be sacked. Do you think Keshi should be replaced or left alone to continue...?
