The biggest game in club football is upon us. On Saturday, at noon ET
(6 p.m. local time), the players of Real Madrid and Barcelona will step
onto the Bernabeu pitch to compete in the 229th edition of el Clasico.
Both
teams enter the game in prime form. Real Madrid have won five straight
league games, scoring 25 goals in the process, while Barcelona have
dropped just two points through eight games and have yet to concede a
goal.
And then there are the players ... Gareth Bale will miss the game
through injury, but Madrid are led by current World Player of the Year
Cristiano Ronaldo -- who has scored 15 goals in seven league games this
season -- and also feature an in-form Karim Benzema, World Cup leading
scorer James Rodriguez and World Cup winner Toni Kroos.
Meanwhile, Barca's main man is Lionel Messi, the all-time leading scorer in Clasico
history with 21 goals. His supporting cast includes Neymar, Andres
Iniesta and, oh yes, a certain Luis Suarez, who is expected to make his
debut after serving a suspension for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini
during the World Cup.
Excited? Of course you are!
Who do you think will win this much-anticipated encounter? Will los Blancos make home advantage count, or can the Blaugrana open up a seven-point gap over their bitter rivals? Or will honours be even at full time?
